China Consumer Sentiment Study How Did Consumers React to the Delivery War?

Foodservice remained a top category for China’s consumers. But a slight decline in income net growth has increased the significance of discounts in their delivery decision-making. This month’s China Consumer Sentiment Study highlights May performance and examines how consumer priorities are fueling the delivery war.


Highlights: 


  • Share of household income decreases grew while income increases remained unchanged.

  • Expectations for dining out have stabilized in recent months.

  • Foodservice still ranked high in spending willingness across categories.

  • Meituan remained the top delivery platform, but JD and Taobao attracted consumers through discounts.
